Your own key or a local model
$0 to us
Add an OpenRouter key (the default: one key for many models) or an OpenAI key and pay
the provider directly for what you use, or point MythScribe at a model on your own
computer (Ollama, LM Studio) and pay nothing.
- Never routed through our servers
- Cost shown on every request
- A daily spending cap
Hosted AI Coming soon
Pay as you go
For writers who would rather not manage a key: one balance, every model, pay only for
what you use. Top up $10, $25, or $50 in real dollars that never expire, billed at the
model’s cost plus 25%. Try the AI for $5. Any unused balance is refundable for 30 days.
- No subscription, no automatic top-ups
- A price quote before any big job
- Your text passes through and is never stored or logged by us
What does your own OpenAI key cost?
A rough estimate, not a quote: about $6 a month for a writer who adds
1,000 words a day, keeps background indexing on, takes about 20 VibeWrite suggestions a
day, and asks the assistant 3 questions a day, with an OpenAI key on the app’s OpenAI
models (GPT-5.4 mini for background work and suggestions, GPT-5.4 for the assistant) at
OpenAI’s prices of 5 October 2026. The OpenRouter defaults (DeepSeek V4 Flash and Pro) are
priced lower per token.

Your own numbers depend on how you write and what you ask. The app shows the cost of every
request and a running total, the edit-pass screen shows an estimate before you start, and
the daily cap (set to $2 when you install) stops requests once it is reached. A local
model costs nothing.
