FAQ

Questions writers ask

What else is in the app?
  • A binder of parts, chapters, and scenes with word counts at every level, and a book-width page with a focus mode and autosave
  • Synopsis, notes, POV, location, and timeline beside every scene
  • Outline, timeline, goals, and writing statistics
  • Tags and # mentions, and a binder you can filter by tag
  • Automatic backups, drafts, and snapshots you can compare
  • Import from Word or Markdown; compile to a print-ready paperback PDF (trim sizes, mirrored margins, running heads), EPUB, Standard Manuscript, Word, and more, with a live page preview
  • With AI on: VibeWrite (a few words in your style after the cursor when you pause), a voice profile built from your own paragraphs, and edit passes (line edit, copy edit, proofread, and more) that come back as tracked changes for you to accept or reject
Where is my writing stored, and who can see it?

On your computer. A project is a folder holding one database file and your images; nothing is uploaded and there is no account. With AI off, nothing leaves your machine. With AI on, a feature sends only the text it needs, straight to the provider you chose, and the AI settings page lists exactly what each one sends. The privacy policy has the details.

Do I have to use AI?

No. MythScribe installs with AI off, and the binder, editor, notes, story bible, tags, outline, timeline, and backups all work without it. You can switch AI on for one project and leave it off for another.

How much does the AI cost?

With your own OpenRouter or OpenAI key you pay the provider directly; for a writer working every day that is roughly a few dollars a month (see the estimate). The app shows the cost of every request and a running total, and stops at a daily cap you set. A model running on your own computer costs nothing.

What do Auto, Ask, and Plan mean?

They are the assistant’s modes, picked under its message box. In Auto it makes its edits itself, each with Undo, and still asks before deleting anything. In Ask every edit waits for your Apply. In Plan it only reads and talks; it never edits. Edit passes always come back as tracked changes, whatever the mode.

Can I bring in a manuscript and my worldbuilding notes?

Yes. Import a Word (.docx) or Markdown file and MythScribe finds the chapters and scenes; you review and adjust them before anything is created. Worldbuilding documents go into the Library: with AI on, MythScribe sorts them into character, place, and world sheets and shows you every change before it is made. Sheets also import from a JSON file or a spreadsheet (CSV), and export the same way, so you can reuse them across books.

Does it work offline?

Yes. Writing, organising, search, and backups need no connection. AI features need to reach your provider, unless you run a local model on your own computer.

Which platforms does it run on?

Windows, macOS, and Linux. MythScribe is in development and there are no public downloads yet; the download buttons will work once the first signed builds are out.

The assistant’s three modes

AI is off when you install. Turn on Use AI for a project and pick how the assistant may act, right under its message box. Change it whenever you like. The AI settings page lists exactly what each feature sends.
